Layak Singh was born and raised in Agra…home of the Taj Mahal.  Layak graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Khargpur and studied Mechanical Engineering.  It was during his second year at IIT that Layak got interested in starting his own company.  Some of his friends were starting consulting companies and other startups…and he went to work for them.  It was here that he first started learning about building a team, product development and building a company strategy.  During his third year, he branched out on his own and started an Educational Research company.

In his fourth year of University, he started an online dating company, which operated more like a social network.  The idea was to give people at IIT Khargpur a platform to express themselves and by analyzing their behavior create an interest based matching algorithm.  It was through the building of dating platforms that Layak started to get interested in Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.  The type and sheer amount of data that gets shared on a dating platform is so voluminous and just seemed ripe for analysis.

He and his team started analyzing all of the data and started building systems that could match people with the same interests.  He was also working with travel companies, health companies and others to recommend to the potential daters where they should go and where they should eat.  They realized that insurance was also based on analyzing troves of data and based on the inefficiencies they experienced in the insurance processes they encountered, they thought this was an opportunity as well.  With all of the experience gained from the dating company, he started building Decision Engines to help enterprises understand their customers and what they need and provide this information to them in real time.
