Chris Garrett is the Country Head for Hong Kong and Malaysia at DocDoc. Chris’ history in Asia is long and varied. Originally from the United States, Chris’ grandfather first travelled to Southeast Asia in 1960 by boat. After graduating from university in the United States, Chris wanted to return to Asia and secured a position with International SOS, the world’s leading medical and security risk services company.  His experience working at International SOS makes Chris a leading expert in the healthcare field in Asia. In this conversation, Chris generously shares his very personal life story and his deep belief in the DocDoc business model.

Committed to delivering value to clients and patients, Chris joined Singaporean HealthTech startup DocDoc, a patient empowerment company that is the result of a very personal crisis of its founder, Cole Sirucek and his co-Founder wife, Grace Park. DocDoc enables patients to find the right care at the right time and create radical transparency in healthcare. The Company is collecting individual data on the ground from doctors with a baseline of 500 data points per doctor. DocDoc then uses predictive analytics to generate a doctor discovery report.

Chris explains some of the issues he discovered with health insurance providers and talks about how partnerships between HealthTech companies and health insurers can lead to a win-win situation and deliver value to customers. He shares how DocDoc is talking to incumbents in Asia as well as Asian InsurTechs and the challenges they are facing and gives his opinion on why incumbents may fail to innovate.
